Vince Staples released Ramona Park Broke My Heart, his fifth studio album, last month, featuring 16 songs as well as contributions from Lil Baby, Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign. “WHEN SPARKS FLY,” which is produced by Frano, takes inspiration from Nas’s iconic It Was Written standout “I Gave You Power” about the relationship between a gun and a rapper:
C. Blacksmith and Staples have teamed up to produce a matching video for “WHEN SPARKS FLY”. In an effort to keep things simple and focus on the lyrics, viewers can observe Staples delivering his bars while laying on a park bench near a woman with a bright blue light shining over his head.
In addition to the video for “WHEN SPARKS FLY”, Vince Staples is also producing a musical titled Ramona Park Broke My Heart The Musical with Moment House, in which the critically acclaimed artist performed a live performance for the first time. In a statement made via social media, Staples described The Musical in a way that described it as “an immersive moment where he performs music from his entire catalog and his new album.” Although the experience took place over the weekend, it is unclear whether it will be available for sale as a set.
